.: Christmas etc :.
I spent the last hour and a half or so helping my mom put ornaments back in boxes, and the first time I was doing things with one hand I randomly remembered a scene from Ghost in the Shell 2nd GiG where the Major's first love was on a hospital bed making cranes with one arm, refusing cyborization because the technology at that time couldn't keep fine motor control for him to continue making cranes for the girl who had the bed next to his. (that was the Major's bed) It's a sad scene, so it's kind of odd that I remembered it right then. Dunno. It's always interesting to me how I sometimes make those kinds of connections with anime I've watched.
On the subject, I'm now extremely far behind on my anime list. I've got about four a half days (straight) worth of anime downloaded and ready to watch... Shakugan no Shana, Akira, Rurouni Kenshin, Ergo Proxy, 5 Centimeters Per Second, Genshiken 2, Kujibiki Unbalance, Rose of Versailles, Tekkaman Blade, and Texhnolyze. That doesn't include anime that's airing right now that I'm behind on. I think for a while I'll stop downloading more old shows and just try to stay current with ones I'm already watching.
I finished Revolutionary Girl Utena the other day. Sorry to say it didn't really seem that great of an anime to me. There were a couple of good funny moments (Nanami's egg stands out), but it got really repetitive pretty quickly. This is the first anime I've watched where I've felt it safe to skip a minute plus of the middle of the show because I knew I wasn't missing anything. And I could do this on nearly every episode. I'm not sure why they felt it was necessary to show her climbing the tower in full every time. They only show I believe three different ways she goes up, between probably about 30 times she goes up the tower out of 39 episodes. Same goes for the student council elevator ride, "a chick that cannot break the shell dies, break the world's shell!" etc. I did like the ending to a degree, in that Akio finally got what he deserved, but the true meaning of the "revolution" was more or less never explained or if what I'm thinking it was, it never happened. Unless the revolution was Akio getting his just desserts? Also, Miki's stopwatch was for a while the sole reason I kept watching. I wanted to know what exactly he was timing. Never explained :( Maybe the wikipedia page... Nope. Hmm. I guess that most likely a sizable portion of the reason I didn't like it much was the fact that I don't really like dueling/arena/strictly fighting anime. There really wasn't much else in it. I was near worried at the end that they were going to have a NGE style ending too. Whew. Other than the plot I don't really have any complaints. Music was good, animation was fine (except their need to repeat the same scene verbatim 30+ times), VA was good.
I'm midway through the movie, I started watching it and then it was getting late and it wasn't interesting enough to keep me awake at 4 am. I'm not sure what kind of art style they're going for in it, but it is extremely abstract. There are severe differences between the movie and the anime's settings, which makes me curious which of the two is more closely following the manga. Also, the movie depicts Touga as a childhood boyfriend of Utena's, while the opposite is nearly shown in the anime. Peculiar.
Maybe I'll move on to Genshiken 2 next, a comedy based on the otaku crowd. As long as they stick with the same idea as the first one this one will be pretty funny.
